How AI Can Solve Staffing Challenges in Healthcare

Jason Lockbaum Mar 6, 2024

In recent years, the healthcare industry has grappled with a significant challenge: staffing shortages. This issue has been exacerbated by various factors, including an ageing population, increased demand for healthcare services, and a limited pool of qualified professionals.

Healthcare staffing shortages will continue to create challenges in 2024, as one study projects more than 6.5 million U.S. healthcare professionals will permanently leave their positions by 2026, while only 1.9 million will step in to replace them. This will create a national shortage of more than 4 million workers. The Association of American Medical Colleges estimated a workforce shortage of 124,000 physicians by 2031. There’s expected to be an even more significant shortage among nurses; the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics estimates a shortage of 200,000 nurses by the same year.
