AI non-medical team members about to be launched in clinics.
How will Ai non-medical team members affect your existing team & their jobs?

Hi , Dr Arti here!
AI agents seem to be the next big thing in AI for clinics, with rumours swirling that OpenAI may announce an AI agent program next week. But what are AI agents? And how will they impact the jobs of our non-medical team members?
Today, I’ll give you 3 scenarios of what will happen…
Sample Use Case
AI tool: LLM
Maple Leaf Clinic has always prided itself on efficient administration and patient-centric services. However, with the rising administrative demands and the need to stay ahead technologically, they recently introduced an AI non-medical team member named "MediBot."
MediBot wasn't designed to replace any staff; instead, it aimed to support the workflow and reduce the boring tasks that slowed down the human team. As an AI agent, MediBot could interact with various software applications used in the clinic to perform tasks that once required manual input from the staff.
1 - Assistance Mode:
In its early days, MediBot was set in "Assistance Mode." It could look through electronic health records to update patient files, manage inventory by ordering supplies before they ran out, and even remind patients of their upcoming appointments through automated messages.
Benefits: The human team noticed a significant drop in their daily workflow. Now, they had more time for patient engagement and could focus on improving service quality rather than worrying about stock levels or calendar management.
2 - Replacement Mode:
As MediBot's capabilities evolved, it entered the "Replacement Mode." The AI could now manage the clinic's scheduling autonomously, adjust appointment times based on the urgency of care needed and prioritization of preferred patient cases, and even handle billing inquiries from patients.
Outcome: A few administrative roles became redundant, but the clinic's management was proactive. They offered upskilling programs, enabling the affected employees to move into more strategic roles or treatment coordinator positions and enhancing overall job satisfaction and patient care.
3 - New Job Creation:
Interestingly, MediBot's introduction led to new job titles such as "AI Analyst" – professionals trained to interpret MediBot's data analysis for personalized treatment plans, and "AI Managers" who ensured MediBot functioned properly in all clinic areas.
Transformation: This clinic not only improved its efficiency but also its appeal to tech-savvy patients and employees looking for a futuristic workplace.
4 - Hype vs. Reality:
However, not everything was smooth sailing. Initial glitches and integration challenges made some staff sceptical of the AI integration. The promise of AI threatened to be overshadowed by the problems of new tech implementation. Yet, through dedicated training and iterative software improvements, MediBot gradually became an indispensable part of the clinic team.
The Takeaway:
While AI non-medical team members bring a spectrum of potential changes, the human element likely remains irreplaceable in healthcare in the near future.
Clinics like Maple Leaf leverage AI to enhance, not extinguish, the human touch at the core of a personalized patient journey. Whether assisting, replacing, or creating new roles, the ultimate goal remains the same - to increase clinic revenue, reputation and patient results.
